I’m pleased to draw your attention to David and Lisa Boyd’s current ministry focus - Living Fire Arts Network, based in Colorado. Their mission is to help restore the arts to the worship platform through dance, music, drama, graphic arts, all leveraged in the revelation of the glory of God and the enrichment of human culture.
From the website:
“Why does the church need the arts? I suppose there are at least two ways to approach this question. One is the understanding of the ultimate origin and purpose of art, which is revealed in Psalm 19. There the Bible speaks of a testimony about the reality and greatness of God which speaks without words to all the earth. This testimony is the beauty of creation, which is God’s artwork, his self-portrait, if you will. Because God is himself beautiful, there is beauty - it is a revelation of his person.”

I’ve decided to switch to regular blog-based software for the Heirship archives. Everything in the old site is here, just poke around a bit.

Sorry for the rather long layoff, but we’re back with a special gallery of pictures from the Carmen Freitas Archives. The photos are dated January 1977 and feature many old friends and family. We hope you’ll enjoy them by clicking here.

…for some exciting stuff in the next few weeks years (as it turns out). We’ve been given access to Heirship memorabilia collected over the years by Carmen Freitas, including pictures, newspaper articles, posters, all kinds of stuff! Included in her collection is a wonderful set of pictures we’re calling An Evening At The Living Water Inn. So keep coming back every week to see what’s new!

Chuck was on the pastoral staff at Calvary Chapel San Diego when Heirship played there a few times; we all felt the power of his ministry to each of us, dealing with some pretty sensitive situations that were going on in Heirship at the time. Anyway, I stumbled across a web site for his old band Parable and ordered a CD to replace my old scratched up vinyl copy of ‘Illustrations’. I also dashed off a note to see if he remembered us. I got the CD in the mail today along with a gracious note on the outside of the box.

Chris Corley has called with the sad news of the death of his mother, Del (Corley) Myers in Cloverdale, CA on Thursday, Dec. 21 due to lung cancer.
Del played an important role in Heirship’s history, allowing us to use her family’s living room as a rehearsal space in the formative years of the band. We all were accepted as extended members of her family, welcome to take over the kitchen any time. Members of Heirship performed at her wedding to Lew Myers at First Baptist in Merced, presided over by Phil Conley. I felt like a special member of the family while her daughter Kathleen and I were dating for several years.
A small memorial service is planned for the days after Christmas. We’re working on getting an address where you can send your remembrances.
Our prayers and best wishes go out to Lew, Kathleen, Chris, Julie and the rest of the family.

Did you know that someone has actually posted a review of RTTS on a web page??
Go to A Decade of Jesus Music: 1969-1979, then click on the ‘CHOOSE AN ARTIST’ dropdown box in the left sidebar. Finally, search for your favorite Jesus Rock/Folk/Country/Hippie band. See if you can figure out the ‘Deadhead kind of moment’ the reviewer mentions.
(Hint: we’re just before Annie Herring and Benny Hester!)
